Art Blog of Kei Liwanag

Today, I am more confident, my heart is open to hope, I have faith in myself. No, the laborious studies I work at are not useless, the road I am following is a good one, and with the help of God, I shall achieve glory, a just and a pure glory. - W. Bouguereau

Dessert

August 30, 2008

PhotobucketI’ve been doing this on and off, I’m a little burnt out lately. Work sucks this past weeks. There’s an annoying client who keeps nitpicking on every little thing, it’s tiring to revise the same frames everyday so when I get home, I don’t even want to turn on my pc.

I ‘m going to try to oil paint this piece as a practice. Let’s see if I can mimic or if I can make this even better! Thanks to Mr. Ivan Roxas, he’s been an inspiration. He’s the reason why I want to take oil painting seriously. Hey Ivan, thanks for the Bouguereau book! It’s mine now! Mwahaha! Peace…again!

Anyways, about the piece. This was not my initial idea, she was supposed to be in a park with Cherry Blossom trees. I wanted this to be pinkish…but when I saw my sketch, it just didn’t strike me as something interesting and I bonked my head ‘cos I’m making pink flowers again. I especially like the worm and caterpillar ‘cos I can’t touch them in real life, I have a phobia with headless creepy crawlies that wiggle like fuck. They are very very creepy.

 Thank you for looking. :)

Artist’s Mark?

August 26, 2008

Last Thursday night while eating dinner with friends, Marvin (welcome to i.ph by the way!) noticed the ‘mark’ on my wrist. I told him that I like it and I call it the “artist’s mark” because i got it by drawing on the PC so much. Shelly got one too which makes Marv wonder why he doesn’t have one.

Violinists have their marks on their neck, writers on their middle finger, I think if someone uses their Wacom or is drawing on the table too much then they will get the mark on the same spot too. I’ve seen a couple of artists who were trying to avoid having this by wearing gloves, arm bands, or using a wrist cushion. But for me, I like it especially when it’s really red. Sorry if anyone got grossed-out by the image above.

I’d rather call it an “artist’s mark” than a callus you know? Mwahaha!

Exotique 4

August 21, 2008

The Finger_th.jpg

My artwork on the left will be in Ballistic Publishing’s Exotique 4: World’s Most Beautful CG Characters.

I have Exotique 2 and I love it, it’s a thick book filled with good artworks. So I’m really happy that my art got included in Exotique 4. I’m in two cool artbooks this year, not bad kei, not bad… *pats back*

Artbooks are like medals in an artist’s resume, donchathink?

Congrats to all the artists who made it too. :)

Dreams

August 11, 2008

I’m a bit lazy to do artworks now and even if I want to my PC in my parent’s house is so slow. The image above is all that I managed to do. LOL!

I had another weird dream last night. (I bet those who know me are rolling their eyes now, saying “Here she goes again!”) I have very weird dreams and I like telling them. Mwahaha. >:D

Anyways, this one isn’t that weird but it’s the second time that a dream like this happened. I’m just gonna make this short. I was at Starbucks and apparently a contest/promo was happening. The barrista was announcing that in our books (in the dream everyone was reading a book and was drinking coffee!) there’s a mark that will say we won P200,000. Everyone was surprised and checked the pages of their books except me. I was just quiet. Then when everyone told the barrista no one got the mark, the barrista looked at me and asked me to check mine. I gave him a blank face and opened my book. There it was! The “You’ve just won P200,000″ mark! Everyone applaud and congratulated me but there’s this guy sitting near me saying that he should’ve won instead of me so I tore the page with the mark out of my book and gave it to him. Everyone got confused including the guy, he asked why did I gave it to him so easily? I looked at him and said, “This is just a dream, how can I brag this to my friends?!” I woke up pissed.

The first dream that I had similar to this one was some time ago. I dreamt that someone gave me a big toy train with tracks, tunnels, and hills laid out in a room. I was so happy even though in real life I don’t like toy trains, I find them creepy and uh, I am an adult in that dream, how can I like toy trains?! Anyways, the train was set up in my grandma’s house. When my parents saw what was laid out in the room, my mom wondered, “Hmm…how can we pack this and transport this back in our house?” I smiled at her and said “Don’t worry mom, this is just a dream. I know I’ll wake-up before we get to that part.” The funny thing is that I woke up wanting that train, I got weirded by myself so I shook it off. =P

That’s all. I’m gonna sleep now and hopefully dream another weird one. G’nyt~

Textures

I am not fond of putting textures from pictures in my personal works, my mentality is that if you can paint it then paint it. If you need to make a special brush–a brush NOT from pictures but the ones you make yourself–then do it. In our studio though, we put picture textures a lot to give our frames a realistic feel or just to give them a certain oomph. =P  I have nothing against those who put picture textures in their works, in fact, I admire those who use them well. In my opinion, bad texturing can make your artwork look cheap and amateurish. For example, a tiled floor put in an artwork without any hint of perspective will break the artwork no matter how good the render is.

Why am I saying these stuffs? Well because…I am giving out free textures/images! Do anything you want with them. Credit or link back to this site is nice but is not necessary just don’t claim them as yours. =) These were all taken in my house. XD Click “more” link below to see all 34 images!

A Story

August 9, 2008

Special guest star: Mallowpopiamnotatoy

Once upon a time in a faraway land, Mallowpopiamnotatoy made a new pal.
It’s black as the night and as shiny as Mallowpopiamnotatoy’s teeth.
It’s filled with a lot of gigabytes and themes.
They shared a lot of fun times together,
Listened to thousands of music together.
Then after two years of continuous play,
Here is what fate has to say…
Mallowpopiamnotatoy’s pal had a fever.
It got hot then cold, then it shivered.
“The time has come for me to leave you,
I’m so glad to have known you.”
“I thank you for the new pouch where you keep me,
but now it’s time to open it and set me free.”

RIP my Creative Zen Vision:M  :(

Something good happened to me today (well, it got me a little nervous but I’d like to take it as a good thing) then this has to happen. Why does my happy time need to have a consequence? *Sigh* I guess it’s time for a new mp3 player.

I’m very good in keeping things that I like. Like my celfone that has been with me for more than 2 years, the blue thing on the keypad came off but it’s still fine. I’m still keeping and using the big, heavy steel watch that I stole from my brother when I was in college, that’s like more than 5 years ago! Uh…my belt that I use everyday, I stole it again from my brother and this belt breaks all the records, it has been with me since highschool! I never changed belt…well I strayed a little, testing out those cute belts with blings and sparklies but after a day or two I switch back to this old brown leather belt. *hugs belt* So it’s really sad that I lost a thing that I like. Heck, I even blogged and wrote a silly poem about it! But yeah…I guess it’s time for a new pal.

bye bye

Cosmos 1

August 7, 2008

I’m unplugged but I glow.

Cosmos 2 is coming up. I pondered for 30 mins last night if I’m going to add the element in this piece which is also in Cosmos 2. It was already done and painted on a separate layer but I removed it because a repeated idea is boring. =P

I’m inspired these days, maybe because of this new blog. Shallow right? But it works. =) I have so many ideas that I want to paint and upload here but time won’t let me. Gawd, I don’t want to sleep. If I don’t have any work, I’ll probably be awake 24/7 and painting.

Mallowpopiamnotatoy - Dusk

Photobucket

Let me introduce you all to my character Mallowpopiamnotatoy. Isn’t he cute? I sketched him a few nights back. I love doodling weird characters before and after I sleep. I have a small sketchpad on my bed, you should all do that too and jot down what you imagine, have dreamt, or just any random ideas and pictures that pop in your head before you forget them. Happened to me a lot of times, it was annoying. =)

Moving on,  Mallowpopiamnotatoy is a transparent marshmallow with a lollipop on his head. His lifespan depends on the lollipop, if it melts then he’ll die. One of his job is being a night bringer. He sets down the sun and prepares the moon for night. Oh, and he is not a toy! He gets really angry if someone tells him that.

Please click the image on the left for close-ups. I had lots of fun making this piece. =)

[ I Sound so stiff! Sorry, I wrote this during my night shift. Sleepy~ ]
